Objectives
In the assesment of the activities and tests within SINTESIO testlab the following objectives are foreseen:
- to build an interoperability testing infrastructure that will support both informal, human-driven interoperability testing as well as formal, usually application-driven interoperability testing.
- with the close cooperation of ETSI PTCC (protocol and test competence centre), ETSI TISPAN WG6 and other standardization bodies (IETF, ITU-T, etc.) to develop and evaluate a well-structured and straightforward interoperability testing methodology, which will rely mostly on open, well-accepted formal testing methods and techniques ( TTCN-3, MSC, SDL, etc.);
- to facilitate the exchange of industrial-grade best-practice and experiences in interoperability testing between equipment vendors, as well as research institutions by supporting plug-tests (ETSI PlugtestTM) and other interop events by providing the test infrastructure (MoC, MoT);
- to organize and execute interoperability events, with a special emphasis on structured and well-prepared test purposes, test methodology, test logging and reporting with the goal of providing high-quality feedback to the standardization bodies (especially ETSI TISPAN, ETSI PTCC). During the interoperability events, it is planned to provide on-site support of the protocol and test experts, who will provide the participating vendors with consulting, test-result clarification, and other expertise;
- to organize parallel technical sessions that will complement the interoperability events with in-depth technical workshops, with the focus on particular interoperability topics, protocol clarification and interoperability test wrap-ups. Tutorials and seminars on specific topics may also be organized, especially for industrial professionals as well as for research personnel from research institutions and universities;
- to build a technology platform for large-scale, inter-domain, cross-functional interoperability testing that will span a multi-site test-bed infrastructure. The SINTESIO intends to develop a proposal to build a complex multi-site test-bed infrastructure where several test sites with a complementary interoperability focus (e.g., the SINTESIO test site, the Parlay test site, the Core IMS test site, etc.) will be connected together (e.g., via the GEANT research network) to constitute a reference NGN architecture. A common denominator of the multi-site NGN interoperability test infrastructure will be common test management and the configuration of a multi-site test infrastructure via WEB-supported middleware, and a unified test methodology and test strategies.
